Three steps to go from Avicii house anthem to dumbed down radio hit

Posted on August 29th, 2011 by jAckrAbbit

Now that the whole Leona Lewis Collide controversy has been taking care of, with Avicii finally being listed as one of the artists on the track, it’s time to take on yet another Avicii-stealer. For months now, we’ve been loving Avicii’s summer anthem, Levels. So it comes as no surprise that it caught the attention of some pop artists…

Ladies and gentleman, I give you the three easy steps to go from an Avicii house anthem to a dumbed down radio hit, brought to you by Flo Rida!

STEP 1: While out clubbing one night (fictional but not really), pop artist Flo Rida hears Levels get dropped in da club, and sees the ladies go wild. “I want it,” he thinks to himself. He decides to simply take the track and spit some lackluster radio-friendly verses over the beat and call it his own. Seeing as he’s famous and all, he can get away with it, right?

STEP 2: “Hmmm, so the Avicii camp wants nothing to do with me, eh?” Mr. Rida decides to call up his pal Dr. Luke and get him to change up the synths and the beat slightly but keep the melody. Dr. Luke, being the maestro pop producer that he is, pumps out a pretty sweet product. “Man, this is so easy, why didn’t Leona Lewis just do this in the first place?”

Hit the jump for the final crucial step!

STEP 3: Call up big boi on the radio, Taio Cruz, hand him over the track to add his pretty ass vocals for a solid hook. Ta da, brand new pop single guaranteed to top the charts and make Taio and Flo Rida millions in $$$.

Although I clearly have little to no respect for Flo Rida, I am not saying what he did was unacceptable nor wrong. It’s actually great to see pop singles be inspired by these house anthems, and who best to draw inspiration from than the great Avicii? All I’m trying to point out is that when this single hits the radio, people will recognize it as a Taio Cruz and Flo Rida track. The average radio listener, which is the majority of people in North America, will know nothing of how it originally came from Avicii’s Levels, nor who Avicii even is. Although the situation has gotten better in recent years, I am still frustrated at how the truly skilled producers of the world still get a mere fraction of the recognition they deserve. While Flo Rida boasts a following of over 3 million on Facebook, Avicii is left with a tenth of that number. Certainly we can all agree that Avicii definitely deserves greater recognition than Flo Rida? Or maybe I’m just extremely biased. Guess I’ll always be yelling out my frustration while no one else really cares/is listening. K, I’m done venting. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
